Journey of Discovery into the World of Science and the “Forest of the Future”

  • by

Pupils in Year 4 at Lunz primary school spent two mornings on a fascinating journey into the world of science. Under the guidance of a team of experts from the University College of Teacher Education Lower Austria, the curious minds delved into a diverse workshop cycle on the theme “Forest of the Future” on February 21st and 22nd.

Accompanied by their class teacher, Katja Jagersberger, the young researchers explored the forest as a habitat in entirely new ways. Through a series of stations including a fairy tale workshop, research workshop, and future workshop, the children gained a comprehensive understanding of the complexity of the ecosystem. The students experienced inquiry-based learning, complemented by reading didactics and theater pedagogical impulses that stimulated their curiosity and creativity. In addition to giving insights into scientific methos, enthusiasm for nature and its protection was deepened. The highlight of the activities was a performance by the students, during which they artistically presented their research findings.

The educational activities are part of the pilot study within the framework of our INSE project. Additionally, there will be educational activities focusing on the ‘nature of science’ at the middle school in Lunz. We will provide updates – stay tuned!
