April saw the kick off of Spring, as well as the conference season, and we had the honour of presenting our work, ideas and project INSE at two conferences.
The first was the Citizen Science Conference for Austria, held in Linz.
Österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz 2023 – Österreich forscht (citizen-science.at)
Our project lead, the wonderful Eva Feldbacher, attended and shared her ideas on using Citizen Science as an important tool to increase understanding of science.
Did you know that Austrian citizens have a lower interest in science and are less likely to believe in the benefits of science and technology than the average EU citizen? Several recent studies, including the Special Euobarometer 516 reports on this distrust from Austrian citizens and we can link this to a lack of knowledge of the research process and scientifically data. As INSE, we hope to increase understanding, interest and trust in science through our network and projects. At the Citizen Science Conference we presented our partnership project and showed examples of how Citizen Science can be successfully embedded in school curricula via school diploma theses and science workshops.
The following week, Eva also presented at the EGU Conference in Vienna, in a session on Science and Society: Science Communication Practice, Research, and Reflection
At the EGU we showed examples of concepts for science education and science communication and initiated contact with other potential partners, including interested scientists from other disciplines and existing networks for science communication. These conferences allow us to strengthen and expand our partnership network.
Next in the calendar is The Symbosium for European Freshwater Sciences in June.
SEFS 13 | Symposium for European Freshwater Sciences, Newcastle, UK 2023
We hope to see some of you there and if you see us, come and check out our poster and we would love to network with you!
