BrainFood

What role do diet, climate change, and omega-3 fatty acids play in the health of fish – and ultimately in human health?

BrainFood is a science communication project funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). It presents the content, methods, and results of the FWF research project 4FatQs in an accessible way for the general public. The project aims to explain the links between food quality, behaviour, health, and cognitive performance in fish.

At its core is a digital VR learning platform with interactive, semi-immersive experiences that can be accessed via smartphones, tablets, computers, and VR headsets. These experiences provide virtual insights into aquatic habitats, research facilities, and scientific working methods, helping users to understand complex ecological processes. The BrainFood VR experience is tested and used in schools and presented at public events to communicate research at WasserCluster Lunz in an engaging and accessible way.

By combining modern technology with easy-to-understand learning formats, the project promotes scientific literacy and aims to strengthen long-term interest in biological and ecological research.
