Teachers & Scientists Team Up: Check Out This Video Lesson and Teaching Materials 🎥✏️

  • by

A new and exciting example of science education in action is now available online — and it features our team member Laura!

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) Teacher-Scientist Pairing Scheme brings teachers and researchers together to co-create engaging lesson content that connects real science to classroom learning.

Laura worked with teacher Sarah to produce a lesson video and accompanying teaching materials that bring the science of lake layers to life. The lesson shows how lakes aren’t just static bodies of water, but dynamic ecosystems with temperature gradients, oxygen layers, and distinct habitats. It includes activities such as “Habitat House Hunters,” where students place organisms in the lake layer where they are most likely to thrive based on real environmental conditions.

This video lesson makes complex concepts like thermoclines and stratification approachable and exciting for learners, and it is a great resource for educators looking to bring real science into their classrooms.

Enjoy watching, sharing, and using these materials!
